Dana 60?????

I did a search and found a post a while back about chopping off the 10-bolt axle tubes and welding them on a Ford 8.8 center section. I was wondering if this is possible to do with either a ford 9" or even a Dana 60. I need a really strong rear end but I don't have enough money to buy a new rear end. I found a shop that will put my axle tubes on either of the center sections I mentioned for $250 and then my only costs are the internal parts. I was wondering if I am missing anything here. The guy at the shop said something about the bearings. About the berings for the axle will be too big for my ends. What about the 9". Would the bearings work for that or can custom bearings be had. If you guys have any suggestions or ideas please feel free to let me know b/c I'm hoping to have the car running in about 1-2 weeks. Also...the reason I ask about the 9" is because a local junkyard has a housing for $50 and it seems like a inespensive option.
