Cylinder Head Question

I got in touch with a local shop that I've been told does the best head porting, and for a very good price. He said that pre 95 heads are the best for porting, is that true? Also he said he'd make em flow about 270/202CFM with a 190CC int. runner. How much power would I get if I bolted this on my car right now with my stock cam... im just wonderin. If I got heads, I'd for sure go with a cam shortly after (cc503 for emissions), but I just wanna know how much power to expect before the cam.

Re: Cylinder Head Question

Well, what you don't want is the 561 castings, which i believe came on 96-97 cars. They flow better stock, but are too thin to port out well

Re: Cylinder Head Question

I just talked to LE about this:

Get the 96 or older heads (casting #'s 643/734). These are thicker than the 97 model (561 castings)

Thanks a lot guys. Soo how much horsepower can i expect to gain if I throw on heads that flow 270/202CFM with a 190CC int. runner with a stock cam? maybe 20rwhp until i throw on a cam?

Re: Cylinder Head Question

FWIW, a Cam, on stock heads can gain 30 RWHP. A Heads Cam car with even a mild cam, such as the Hot Cam CC305 or CC503 can go 350-360 RWHP with nice head work. Those numbers arent too bad. Especially if the price is right. On stock cars, the heads are more of a bottle neck than the stock cam is. I mean dont get me wrong, a cam will give you some great results. the point im trying to make is on stock heads, most cams die out at anything much past 6000-6100 RPM's.

I would think that you could gain up 20 RWHP with ported heads stock cam. More if at the same time you go to a double roller/electric water pump.
