Re: cut out's

you should see some gains from one, but dont get a cast iron one. Just get a flowtec or Summit, they are only like $30 and about another $30 to get it welded in.

Re: cut out's

It will be ALOT louder with the cutout open. I have seen people pick up a tenth or two and a mph with just a cutout. Nothing spectacular but every little bit helps.

I will 2nd the open cutout being waaaaaaaay louder than the Flowmaster muffler you're currently running. My 3" Flowtech cutout is so much louder at idle, acceleration, cruise, & WOT (at any rpm) than the Flowmaster cat-back I have that it's as if I have a totally different car when it's open (the interior noise/resonance is also a lot louder and can be very annoying as well). When closed though, my car is barely louder than a stock LT1 muffler (only deeper).

You'll also definitely pick up some rear wheel horsepower with it open over your Flowmaster 80-series crossflow muffler...Most people do. But again, I just can't get over how much louder the cutout is as compared to the Flowmaster American Thunder system I have on the car. And I absolutely love the incredibly mean/raw tone of it (cutout) w/ my MAC headers + highflow cat.

BEST $35.00 I've ever spent, LOL.

Mike

Re: cut out's

I just picked up a qtec for my car. I've heard cutouts on my friend's car and it sounds awesome but he also has a huge cam. I hope it sounds good through my MAC's as well.

Re: cut out's

I picked up 6hp and 3lbs with the cutout and I think it sounds better than alot of catbacks I've heard. I had it installed right before the axle and with it open it caused a little knock retard on the dyno but since I got the Lt4 km and headers I need to head back to the dyno and see how much it will really give me.

Re: cut out's

IMO an open cut-out is way too loud for the street and will vibrate the sh*t out of your interior. I only open mine at the track. My local exhaust shop fabbed up one right in their shop; no need to buy one and take it to them. The more HP you make, the more the cut-out will will add to your gains. I dyno'd with and without the cut-out open, picked up 15 HP.

Yeah, that is the only thing I don't like about it on my daily-driver '95 Z28...It absolutely vibrates/rattles the $hit of my center console at any kind of acceleration...The drone isn't bad, but it's all the loud interior noise from the vibrations that gets really annoying really fast (especially with the windows up). I don't mind it for now since it's the warm weather season, but I'm definitely going to get the DMH electronic version at some point so I can just open it up when I want the car to be loud and quickly close it to be much quieter again at the flip of a switch.

Re: cut out's

On a stock setup, cutout is fun, has good gains, makes some noise.

Get long tubes and a big cam, everybody will notice it.

cc306 @ 650rpms lopes pretty good.

The open cutout is deeper, but also a little more raw & unrefined...When the Borla is running wide-open (basically an open cutout in itself) it does have some similar sound characteristics of a cutout...And they are both loud, with the cutout definitely being louder inside the car...

After having a $35 cutout installed on my LT1, I would never even consider purchasing a new Borla system for $600+ when the cutout gives the same gains (and sounds better/meaner to me). And like a Borla adjustable system, you can simply cap up your cutout anytime you want to run the exhaust through your muffler instead...

Re: cut out's

I had an electric cutout on mine, with the 80 flow, and I also gained about 10hp on the dyno before I did headers. and Yeah it's loud as crack.

revving sound like a Nascar.

I capped my cutout and removed the 80 and had a 40 series race muffler custom run, and it's almost to loud with just that, I did say almost.
