cut-outs

i have a 94/ta A4(mods in sig.) i am going to put a 3'' cut-out some time in the next couple of days and i was wondering where should i put it. i don't want the car to sound ridiculous. what type of gains should i see??

91RSLT1 May 19, 2003 01:18 AM

Put the cutout as close as possible to the rearend with it dumping out toward the passenger-side. A cut out typically adds a tenth, a mph, and a bad@ss sound:thumb:

i got the same car as you and its the best mod for me so far...very aggressive sound and top end gains are noticeable. I put mine right before the pipe goes over the rear axle.

if i put the cut out after the y-pipe where the cat used to be would it be any different than if i put it before the axle?????

91RSLT1 May 19, 2003 01:58 AM

Yeah a huge difference in resonance and noise within the car. You will regret it, too LOUD. You may see a SLIGHTLY lager gain in performace than if it was toward the back, but it wouldn't be worth it IMHO. An other difference would be the fact that your pass. will get a nice massage.

what types of sound would i expect from the two setups????? i am going for loud and throaty or modified hot rod!

street demon2k3 May 19, 2003 07:02 AM

would having the cut-out open hurt gas mileage?

teke184 May 19, 2003 07:09 AM

i picked up a little gas milage when i run my c/o open.

i don't think you'd gain much from running dual c/o's other than alot more noise.

street demon2k3 May 19, 2003 07:12 AM

what types of sounds should i expect if i go with the one of the two common setups behind the y-pipe or before the axle?

91RSLT1 May 19, 2003 08:53 AM

The exterior noise will be the same. The interior noise on the other hand.....

in the next few months i plan to install some bbk shorties. how would the cut-out perform open with the headers.

its not that bad. I have been running open exhaust for the past week, disconnected it at the y-pipe right after the cat. the interior noise I have gotten used to, but it wasnte really bad in the first place. And yes, my first passenger loved the little massage she got;):)

Bleh, personal preference.

I have mine under the where the rear pasenger seat would be. I always have it upcapped. I love the noise. In fact, it's not loud enough for me.
