Converter

You won't gain any HP from a torque converter...you will more than likely lose a bit on the dyno. But you make up for it in your ET.
Do a search for DIY head porting...you'll find enough posts to gag a maggot. If you've never done it before, I wouldn't recommend trying it if it's your only set of heads.

I would go with one like what I have. 3000-3200 stall should do you nice. Its gonna cost about 500 for a good convertor. 12 inch is ok but 10 inch would be better. Mine is a COAN and is excellent but it is made for a 700r4 and the tranny had to be modified for it to work. so get one for a 4L60E
More good converter tech for those interested....

The most inexpensive and decent converter is probably going to be a TCI.
And before we get into the "TCI is junk compared to Yank, etc." stuff.... look at what you're paying. Not fair to compare a $350-400 converter to a $600 job. TCI builds a high dollar converter too $700+, just not for the overdrive trannies.

Installing a converter isn't difficult... all you need are basic mechanic skills, some jack stands and a helping hand would make it a bit easier.
Here's an install guide I found on Brent Frankers website:

As for the differences.... well it comes down to materials and build quality. You aren't going to get a Ferarri for Camaro prices but do you need a Ferarri? That's the question and it's my opinion that a mild street engine will do just fine with one of TCI's converters. If you plan on investing more money and going alot faster then you may want to go with a better converter from the word "go".
If I were driving an auto with a 4l60e, my choice would be one of the Coan customs. They're right at $600 from outfits like LS1 Motorsports and Coan builds them in the stall you want. In my opinion, Coan makes one of the best converters in the industry. You'll see em on alot of top race cars.

what do you have done to the car? You dont want to go with too high of a stall if you dont have many mods.
