comp xfi cams
comp xfi cams
Ok I have a 94 formula lt1 auto. I am in the processes of modding. The bottom end will be freshened up. I am planning on using the comp cam 290 xfi cam, 1.6 roller rockers, Lingenfelter C&C job on my heads (Possibly havent got it line up quite yet one of those friend of a friend deals), headers, and a tune from pcmforless. My Question is has anyone used this cam yet. I am just wondering how streetable it will be, and what the idle is like with it. I am new here so if there is any more info needed please dont flame me. I am just curoius.
Well Im not sure if the 290XFI is the same as this cam "Comp Cams XFI LT1 Camshaft, 242 / 248, .584 / .579 113 LSA" But if it is Im not very impressed with it. I installed one in my friends 97 Z28 last spring. I installed that cam, Hooker long tubes, stainless works 3" y-pipe, mildly ported stock LT1 heads, fully ported LT1 intake with BBK 58mm t-body, 30lb injectors, Mezire e-water pump, Yank 3600 stall with a built 4L60e, 3.73s, mickey thompson 255/50/16 et street radials and a Spohn fully adjustable t-arm. The car ran a best of 12.35@113mph with a 1.7 60ft. I wasnt very pleased when the 94 B4C I built for a friend ran 12.4@111 with a 1.7 60ft with ONLY a CC306 cam, hooker long tubes and a home made y-pipe, Vig 3200 stall, CSI e-water pump, CAI and 3.73s on 17" BFG drag radials. The XFI cam made alittle more horsepower obriously by the 2 MPH differance but with ported heads and alot of other supporting mods I expected better out of it. I honestly was expecting an 11.9@115 out of it on the first night out. We are going to tune on it alittle bit more this spring and hopefully get some more power out of it but as of right now it sounds REALLY nasty but doesnt really do a whole hell of alot.....

Sorry its the comp 280 xfi I thought those lift numbers where higher than i thought, in ur previous post. Cam specs are duration 230/236, valve lift 576/570, lob sesp 113. Also anyone have a valve spring suggestion, I am not real sure of the beehives jegs wants to sell me, I cant find no info on how reliable they r in the long run.
230/236 duration is about the most you'll want with only 350 cubes and an A4. You'll need to rev it still fairly high to get the most from it I bet, probably around 6200, the low end for daily driving will be a dog still most likely, it will idle fairly well with a 113lsa and should be pulling enough vacuum for the brakes to hold well at a red light with a loose convertor.... These are just my thoughts and preferences as I hated the 236/242 cam I used to have, not to mention if you didn't let it go to 6800rpms it would run almost as slow as a stocker, but sounded mean...not good. For daily driving, the low end torque pull of the smaller cams can't be beat IMO.
