Cold Air Question?
Cold Air Question?
which cold air has the least amount of problems with water when it rains. i don't want to have to put my car up everytime it rains. please just give me some advice as to what cold air is the best to be driven in the rain.
Unless your filter(s) is/are under water, rain won't be a problem. I hear a lot of kids saying that they hate ram air lately, because it sucks up water and "blows up the engine, yo"...
Must be a little bit of a rice factor going on...

i was under the impression that the filter on the k&n and the moroso cia hung so low that if you went into a puddle of water that either the filter would get wet of water would be slung off of the tire and get into the air filter. the reason i ask is because the maf and water dont get along and if water is being sucked up in the filter it will work its way to the senser and that is not a good thing.

with the supercharger set up that i use to have and my buddy has the K&n and every time it would rain the water would get into the air filter and get the maf wet and the car would start to back fire and missfire. the damn ses light would just blink away. in fack my buddy sold his k&n because he was tired of having this problem. has anyone else ever had this problem or does anyone have any pics of there cold air on there car.

No prob with my CAI, I had to drive through a huge *** puddle of water that was about 3 inches deep at least and i was doing 65 mph and hit that **** hard( didn't notice it till the last sec since the puddle was damn long and look like part of the road at night) no probs at all and i was driving through it at 10 mph afterwards and it was a little higher then the bottom of my door.
There is no cooling affect, per say. It just happens that where the intake sits is away from the heat of the engine area, so the air sucked in is somewhat cooler. I can't see water getting in there at all. The filter is enclosed by the lower splash guards, so unless your nose is completely under water you're ok. I've driven in some serious rain and never had a problem.
Correct.
I use the Holley CAI and some 2" holes drilled in the bottom plastic part by the ground. With the hood shut, the filter is isolated from engine heat. It may not be as optimal as the Moroso/K&N/etc, but it seems to be doing the job very well.
I'd have to go through water high enough to submerge the wheels before the filter sees it.
