my rebuilt tranny wasn't shifting into OD, so we tore it open, and the clutches were in perfect condition (had 5 miles on them), and yet we found many clutch bits in the tranny filter. since we had a hughes 2600 stall on there, the only answer is that the pieces were tearing off from the stall converter clutches.

what could cause the stall clutches to tear off like that? the guy i bought it from said that he'd taken it to the track and ran it only one day. could that have affected the clutches that soon?
