Checking Cam Dowel Pin Length

Ok, I've got my opti off, and just want to verify the dowel pin is the correct length. I know now that the correct length for a vented opti is .620" from the cam. How do I go about checking this. Is there any technique that any of you have found works well?? Thanks!

Nevermind. I just used a little piece of cardboard to get an indent, and came up with 9/16" or .5625. So, that should be good.

Use the butt end of a set of dial or digital calipers to get a more accurate reading.

Well, I unfortunately don't have access to either of those. Main point is that my cam dowel obviously isn't too long for the prescribed GM setting of .620.
