cheap bolt ons

i have a 95 z and i'm planning on adding a little extra power to it. nothing fancy or real expensive. one thing i'm for sure going to add is a "ss" hood and the conversion air box to make it funtional. i was told that would give me any where from 20 to 30 ponys. i was wondering if those numbers were correct and was also wondering what else i can add, with the exeption of headers, to get the most power for the cheapest price? i would appriecate any information yall could give me. thanks a bunch.

Cut-out, it's not a bolt on, but it's cheap, sounds badazz, and will give you a little more power.

Most people start with a catback and a CAI of their liking, but since you're going with a functional SS hood... than I would say get a cut out and get a cheap muffler if you don't like the stock sounding exhaust, and that way if you want to be loud as hell, you can always just open up the cutout.

20-30 ponys from a functional SS hood? That's quite optomistic. From what I've seen you'd get better gains from a cold air kit.

20 to 30 HP from an intake?

The above will never happen, 20 is incredibly optimistic. 30 is absurd.

The above might be possible if you had a clogged airbox, and had a 383 with a cam/head full exhaust and then switched to the ram air then you might see the 20-30HP gain.

You won't see those numbers on a stock LT1. Not even close.

Re: cheap bolt ons

5-12 hp is more realistic for the SS air box or a cold air intake in general

Re: cheap bolt ons

He did mention he wants to get a functional ram air hood, while it certainly has the "cool" factor it just kind of expensive. I have no experiance with ram air hoods, however it seems to me that you would be better off going with the hood and making your own intake. As far as money/HP gains are concerned that should get you a much better dollar to HP ratio.

Blazer4.3 I imagine the new tires had a large impact on your ET.

Cutout with LT headers would probably net you a decent SOTP gain, just make sure you buy used LT headers or else you'll be paying out the yang.

Re: cheap bolt ons

just be aware, these guys are making hp assumptions at the rear wheels (which is what everybody goes by anyways, except those weird front wheel drive cars )

also, for headers, might i suggest some rksport middies on their site rksport.com
450 including everything you need and they give one of the best power gains (maybe short of longtubes)
also, dont go longtubes if you have emissions (fail the visual if you have one) and they decrease ground clearance
search and you will find more than you ever wanted to know

Pick the right longtubes and ground clearance loss is minimal to none.

correct, forgot that
aren't those pacesetters supposed to be pretty good on ground clearance?

Re: cheap bolt ons

Pacesetters, TPIS, and one other brang ( I forget now ) make good headers as far as ground clearance is concered. My Driveway is VERY ... VERY steep, and at a bad angle reaching the road. Every time I pull out the front air dam hits the pavement, the headers have about 2 inches of clearance at the lowest point coming out. I might have lost 1/2" of ground clearance with my long tubes. Very much worth the money. You'll want to murder someone during a long tube install though
