Cc305????

This winter I plan on a full exhaust, head porting, RR's, and a cam. The car will NOT be a daily driver, just driven on nice days. The car in an A4 with a 2.73 gear but will have a 3.73 and a tune from PCM for less or something.

Would the CC305 be to mild??? I am hearing and reading the the cc306 is really for an M6 car. I would also like to put a 125 shot on the car come the end of next summer. I also like a good mid range to top end cam so that why I like the 305

305 is a good compromise IMO. For a stock headed car, the 306 can't get all the flow it needs at high rpms. Plus the 305 is big enough that if you do decide to go with aftermarket heads down the road, you'll still get decent gains out of it.

Re: Cc305????

If you have emissions, get the cc305, if you dont and can afford a good torque converter, get the cc306 as it will definitely shine with a good set of heads. Another option would be a heads/custom cam package from a supporting vendor. Lloyd Elliot did mine, and as of recently he is a board vendor.

Re: Cc305????

I can get a converter but I would have to hold off a month or two to get it in.

Right now I am just porting and polishing the stock heads, I am taking my time I don't want to go from a close to stock car to a 500 horse monster on the motor LOL. I am looking for 360-400rwhp. I havent really seen dyno numbers on full exhaust ported stock head CC305 cars....

No emmisions for me, all the emmisions stuff is coming out soon.

Re: Cc305????

Several members on here have see ~350rwhp on stock heads with the 306 after tuning. The 305 itself is probably a great cam (i dont have any first hand experience).. however I think it would not be able to reach the same level as the 306 does on stock heads without more effort. With a 306 you could easily see the 360~400rwhp range with even a lightly ported set of heads I think. A good set of ported heads would have no trouble hitting those numbers. :)

Re: Cc305????

I should mention Im currently driving with the 306 with 3:42s, stock tune and 2200 stall..Im having ZERO issues thus far... I have a few things that I know will be solved in the tune (minor cam surge cruising below 30mph) otherwise Ive driven ~700 miles on this combo since I put it together and fired it up ~3 weeks ago. ;)

Re: Cc305????

Here is my opinion on each of these cams.

cc 305 will work with ANY gear and converter. Any larger and you would want "some" stall. It will start amking power around 2000 RPM and pull to 6100 RPM or so with ported heads and good valve springs. You should be able to reach 350 RWHP with this cam and ported heads. This cam will usually pass emissions with no problems.

cc 306 will need AT LEAST 3.42's and SOME stall. It will idle rougher and sound better (if you want that). It will pull hard from about 2800 to 6400 RPM. Probably will not pass emissions unlesss you have lots of hands on tuning experience.

The cc 305 will proably feel stroinger until 3000 RPM or so. They will feel similar until 4000 RPM and then the cc 306 will start making more power. By 6000 RPM it will probably make another 10 to 15 HP or so and keep[ pulling.

It depoends on what RPM you wanna shift at, if you are gonna get a stall, what type of idle you like, etc. Even with the cc 305, the car will run faster at the track with "some" stall.

There are other cams out there as well, the XE 224/230, 230/236, etc, are good compromises between these 2 as far as RPM range and drivability is concerned. Just get with someone you trust and tell them EVERYTHING you want/expect and they should be able to get you what you want.

Re: Cc305????

So do you guys think a CC306 with ported heads, full exhaust, 3.73's, some stall, and a good tune would get me into the 11's????

Thanks for all the info by the way.

Lloyd, is there anyone on here that you would recomend?????

Re: Cc305????

11's are possible with all of that but the big part about ET is gonna be 60 ft time and traction. A 1.65 60 ft and 375 RWHP should get you in the 11's at 3500 lbs. There are ALOT of variables and everything needs to be right. Bigger injectors, TB, headers, exhaust, CAI, GOOD tuning, converter, gear, etc. are just as important as cam selection. With out the right "helping" parts, you will not be happy with any cam.

I do know a supporting vendor that could guide you through cam selection and help you pick a head and cam package. He has VERY good prices on what he offers and can let you know everything you need to know about what it will cost to run "X" fast or make "XXX" HP.

Try this guy . . . . NightTrain66@msn.com or call him at 972-617-5671
