Catalytic Converter

Earlier I posted that i had failed my emissions test. Well my car was in the shop today as they tried to figure out what the problem was. I bought this car about 7 months ago, it's a 94 Z28. One of the O2's was bad so that was part of the problem..the other is the catalytic converter...there is nothing in it...it's been gutted. No here is my problem. I'm on a VERY limited budget here, and I love the sound my car is putting out right now. If a new coverter goes on, it will cut out the sound, or I could try and keep the sound and go with a high performace converter, which means high prices. Is there anyway around this? Do anyone of you know where I can get a converter real cheap? Can I just weld on any 3 inch converter? That brings me to my next question...if I cut this one off, would I have to get one that welds back on, or can I get away with one that would clamp on?

You can get a dynomax one for $60. Any converter will act like a muffler.

the dynomax one will work perfect. Any exhaust shop can put it in. Out of pocket will be around 200.00 more or less.

You can also get a CATCO from Summit or Jegs for cheap and take it to a local shop and have them make up ends for it and ends on your exhaust so you can bolt it on or off. You will also need to get a "off-road" pipe made up the same way.

I was discussing with a friend about putting on a cheap cat for the test and taking it off afterwards...there is a small salvage yard not far from here, so maybe I can just pull one off a camaro from there...What years shared the same size and setup for the cat as my 94 Z28? Think I would be safe just clamping the cat's back on??
