CAT Locations w/ LT Headers
CAT Locations w/ LT Headers
Can anyone suggest locations for the dual cats I'll need to install in my LT header (Pacesetter) with Magnaflow catback system? Just found out Hawaii requires an inspection on modified cars and they'll check for cats.
Re: CAT Locations w/ LT Headers
i plan on getting a custom y-pipe with 3" minicats for my pacesetter setup. I dont know where I will be locating them yet though, but I figured the shop would find the spot where they tuck (if you can call it that) the best.

http://216.178.81.107/iwwida.pvx?;it...0%201?comp=ppe I paid around 140.00 for the pair and shipping was free. Plus, I passed the draconian IL emissions with them as well.

Heres a link http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...ight=dual+cats to pics of my pacesetters. The cats a 4"dia 6"long body and total length 11". I retrouted the fuel lines as a safety precaution as cats put off a lot of heat.
Re: CAT Locations w/ LT Headers
So you know...
You want the cat as close to the engine as you can get it so that it lights off properly. Too far away and it wont get up to temp.
Also, if you have a sniffer test anbd your cats are much further back than stock, be sure to leave your car running while you wait for the test. It'll keep the converter temp up.

Re: CAT Locations w/ LT Headers
Someone suggested putting one high flow cat just behind the ORY pipe. This would be the easiest way to do it, and it would only be a slight bit further down than the stock cat for the passenger side. My concern is the SINGLE cat.
Since I originally had 2 cats, will a single one cause too much back pressure, and HP loss?

Re: CAT Locations w/ LT Headers
If you want ground clearance it is not going to happen with a cat on the car. Ground clearance is already bad enough with a 3" y-pipe. If you need them for a emissions test your best bet but costly is to have a spare y-pipe setup with the cats in it that you run for only that.
The pics showed with cats on them in my opinion hang to low and look terrible.
As for running one cat our cars will pass with one cat the early 4th gens only had one cat. I also got my heads cam car to pass with a single aftermarket cat untuned. It barely barely passed.
