Clicking when cranking the engine is usually from not enough current getting to the starter. The first easiest thing to check is the voltage across the battery when you turn the key. If the voltage goes below 11volts when cranking either the battery is bad or the alternator is not charging it. If the voltage across the battery is ok, check the ground straps to the engine and frame to be sure they are shiney, secure and tight.

Always remove the cables from the side of the battery and check for corrosion that can't be seen with the cables in place.

Don't forget to check the cable at the starter for breaks, tight and clean and also the positive cluster on the passenger fender.

Once you have it running, check the voltage across the battery to see that the alternator is taking it near 14 volts. If not, the alternator may be defective.

BTW if you have a Big Thumping Amp that is what is killing your battery. FYI

Loud backfire? Sounds like you first need to see why it doesn't crank. Then you need to troubleshoot why the hell it died in the first place. Check air, fuel and spark. If that fails, compression. I had an LT1 do that once and it was the opti, though alot of people complain of timing chains going...but if you were just cruising I doubt that happened though (chains usually die quietly in LT1's)Let us know what you find.
