Thumbs up

check you cold air intake and make sure its all on tight and all your wires are pluged in and check to see that your maf and all that have all the propper connections if this doesnt work unhook the batter for 10 min and try it then sometimes its something stupid and the computer will fix its self!

I am having the exact same problem on my 93 Z28. An answer would help.

So far I have been told to check the engine for vacuum leaks, and then check the plugs.

The plugs in my car are fairly new, and the car doesn't appear to have any vacuum leaks....So I'm stumped on this

I have the same symptoms, but I'm not sure if its Rich/Lean, and it doesn't backfire it just starts and instantly dies, and i have to gas it to keep it running, and it idles low, around 500 RPMS

Where is it? How do I test for it being bad, etc? Cost to buy a new one.

Sorry I haven't ever ever heard of this thing

It is on the throttle body and controls the air for idle. Sometimes it and the passages in the TB get clogged up. They can be cleaned out.

The 1993 version screws in, instead of having the hold down bolts.

Testing the IAC, itself.

Shoebox: Do you think I should pull the intake elbow and spray some intake/carb cleaner on it to see if that helps?

It really cannot be reached from there. The passages are internal to the TB and open to a small hole on the other side of the butterflies. To adequately access it for cleaning, you really have to take the TB off.

$140? Nah, not even at dealer list price. Dealer wholesale is ~$50. You can also get one from your local auto supply.

ICM

Your Ignition Control Module is located on and directly above your coil. It is small, somewhat rectangular, and has four wires that connect to it. Your problem sounds very similar to one I had. Get your Haynes, a voltmeter w/ various functions (like reading resistance, volts, etc) and start diagnosing. Just follow the flow chart. I've had my ICM go out twice in the last year. Could be a coincidence, but I'm waiting for a third time and I'll look for a cause for blowing my ICM. I had a bad experince with a knock off brand ICM, so I recommend buying the GM one - about $140 I think.
