car starts then dies. Opti??

The wife's car just started doing this. You start the car and it starts then dies. You try to restart and it will usually start and miss. Start it one or 2 more times and it runs fine.

I did a cam swap about 3000 miles ago but this problem just started. Opticrap has about 70k on it.

do you have a fuel pressure guage on it? Mine does same thing. I know it's due to the well known fuel pump check valve leak. Sometimes I turn the key to "on" & the fuel pressure doesn't come up as it should. If I start the car then it will start & run for a few seconds then die. If I turn key on & off a couple of times the check valve seats properly, fuel pressure comes up properly & it starts & runs fine. I have a fuel pump change planned soon, but with a pressure guage I can live with it for now.
I think the opti gets blamed for a variety of issues that are attributable to other culprits. I'd definitely do further troubleshooting before condeming the opti. I'm at 130k miles on the original opti.
good luck

Usually if the opti is bad enough to prevent the car from starting you will have a huge range of problems. It wont run ok at all, IF it starts.

does it just start, run for like 1-2 seconds and then die? If so, check your intake to make sure everything is plugged in properly. Check the air silencer too, if the silencer isnt connected or blocked off it wont run for more than 1-2 seconds.

It has a new Walbro 255 pump in the tank. Everything appears to be connected as it should be. I have not put a gauge on it yet.
