Car Overheating.
 

As i was driving home i noticed my temprature was just steadily rising. i pulled over and i noticed my fans are not coming on. i just did a throttle body bypass. could that have something to do with. i didnt throw any codes. but usually my car stays right at 160. any suggetions. is there a sensor i could have broken that run the fans.

anyone have any ideas my car is just sitting in antoher town and i really need to get it home. i also have a reprogrammed obd1 pcm in there and i am going to swap the old obd2 back in there and see if it works

How high is it reaching? it's sometime normal for the fans to start late when the cooling system is drained and refilled, but should return to normal after a short while.
It's unlikely you broke the temp sensor on the water pump while doing the tb bypass. Could it be that the system is not filled up and bleeded properly?

it is full and the system is bleeded completly. it reached the red mark and my fand DO NOT come on at all

My car will go in the red and then the fans will come on. I checked it out with a scan tool at my friends shop and the computer read that it was coming on at the correct time (180), but the guage was off. I replaced both the sensors and it still reads the same. I believe that the guage itself might be broken, not sure, but I'm looking into it. Wire up a puller fan in front of the condensor/radiator setup and run it off the ACC power lead in your fuse box and it should take care of the overheating problem. :)

i went and tried to fix the problem. my car overheated within 3 minutes of sitting at an idle, the car was cold. i think maybe it could be my water pump or possibly my theremostat is stuck closed. but that still doesent solve why my fans are not coming on. i know the gauge is not broken because earlier today when it first happened there was coolent everywhere.

For a quick/temporary fix on the fans, if you disconnect the CTS the fans should run all the time. But if the car is overheating in 3 minutes, there is a problem other than the fans coming on. Sounds like there's air in the system.

If you turn on your AC, the fans will kick on. If they don't, then check for a blown fuse. Do you have a electric water pump? If so, maybee you accidently disconnected the wires on it.

I agree that there is air in the system (reason for car getting hot). I had the same problem for 3 weeks now. I thought that I blead the system correctly but I didn't. I remember reading a post a few weeks back on how to bleed the system. I let the car get warm, then shut it off. I got a screwdriver and loosened the screw that is attached to the bypassed portion of the hose. WOW! alot of air blew right out. I had to do this 3 times before antifreeze began to pour out. My fans are bypassed to turn on when the ignition does and when I run my a/c it would just get extremely hot. Since the bleeding process my temp is running just a tad pass the half way mark with the a/c on in stop and go traffic on a hot day. Please, don't make the same mistake I did. It will save you alot of headaches. Thanks guys for your support!

i dont have an electric fuel pump it is a stocker. but i will try the A/C because i really just need to get the car home. where is the cts and i will try that to. thanks guys

There are 2 CTS (coolant temp sensor) one on the water pump for the PCM to read and control the fans and other one is on the driver side cylinder head for the gauge.

oh thanks i knew where those are at it just didnt dawn on m at the time. i will try that too and see if i can get it home

i had the same problem, i removed the thermostat and got it home, it was air in the system. it was just overheating withing three minutes, just take the thermostat out and drive it home and have the system bleeded out.
