car blew up?!
car blew up?!
today on my way home from work my car started acting crazy, i would be cruising on the highway and my car start to jolt every couple of seconds and if the car was in neutral or the clutch was in, the car would just stall then id have to start it back up. As i got onto my street it started stumbling and jolting real bad and kept shutting off. Finally at the stop sign when i was stopped it kept shutting off and i couldn't get it to stay started. Then as i started it again it all of a sudden made a bunch of clunking noises and sounded like something snapped or came off inside the engine then shut off. I tried to start it again and it was cranking fine but wouldn't start, it sounded like something was flapping around inside. my guess is the timing chain snapped or something. Anyone have any ideas?
If your timing chain snapped then when you tried to start the engine you would know. There would be no compression. The starter would engage with a smooth sound. You can also take the oil cap off, take a look at the rockers, turn the engine over by hand and see if the rockers actuate.
I wouldn't turn the engine over any more using the starter until you found out what the problem was.
