car acting different when accelerating
 

lately when I get on the gas pretty good, my car seems like its not getting good power. It kind of jerks up to speed. not really violently but its not smooth at all like it was when I got it. If im staying at a constant speed it wont do it. only when I accelerate. I have a m6 and it acts kind of like when im in too high of a gear and need to downshift but its not the same. This acceleration problem occurs when im at 2.5 to 3k and speeding up. im sure thats plenty of RPM behind a gear to keep it from jerking up to speed like that. any idea what the problem is?

I would almost bet you have 1 bad plug or ignition wire.
When running at cruise on 7 cylinders it does not feel nearly as bad or noticable than when accelerating.
I also have a M6....the higher the gear the worse the condition will be.

whats the best way to check that? could it be my clutch slipping?

I had the same problem, one of my wires was touching the header which caused it to melt and arc over. The easiest way to check it is get somewhere really dark, start the car and look under your hood for a spark by the headers if you see one then change your wires. How long has it been since you had plugs and wires changed?

wires are about a year old. plugs are brand new. less than a week old ac delco platinum 48$ plugs. Its possibly one of the plug wires got moved onto a header pipe when I changed the plugs.

If it just started doing it then that is probably your culprit. Check all of the wires. One's touching something it shouldn't be. I'm speaking from experience.

so I should just crank it up in the dark and look for arcing fire? would I scan tool help anything?

I checked under the hood. there was no spark. I do remember a slightly burnt plug wire when I was changing the plugs last week. I moved the wire away from the header and sealed with electrical tape. Tonight I noticed that the tape was melted through. I moved it again and got it further away from the header. my problem seems to be gone now! I won't be able to change the wires any time soon but tomorrow im going to put a better tape on it and get some zip ties to pull the wire further away from the header. Any advice? thanks

That is your problem then. I wouldn't rely on tape for long. The fact that it was burning already shows that it's just a short-term fix. The arc is probably better because the metal headers are not as close to the flow of electricity since you moved it, but burnt wire insulation is burnt wire insulation, and you have a hole from which electricity can arc freely to any conductor. Just be careful with it.
