Can't separate T-56 from Bellhousing...

'97 Formula.

I have the 8 bolts out. I have the engine supported by the oil pan. I've got a floor jack w/ tranny plate under the tranny supporting it.

I shooke the **** outta the tranny but it doesn't seem to want to separate. Am I missing something here?

If I remember... yes they were just 8 bolts.. but you need to line up correctly the tranny.. if its a bit tilted the input shaft will make pressure on the pressure plate and it will not come off... Dont shake the HLL out of it... treat it softly and specially with a tranny lifter ;)

it doesnt want to come out becuse the shift fork is not desangaged (sp) You need to grab it and pull it down/left if i remember corectly :p

I'm following along w/ the directions from zachz28.8m.com

I've got a jack w/ a tranny type plate thing on it, it's supported pretty well. I was trying to shake it loose heh.

I did remove the clutch cylinder, and pull the fork down.

YESS YESS YESS to xxsaint69x you listen...

just remove the slave cylinder and put you finger in it.. you will fill a small valley where you can sort of grab the fork and dissengage it... that is it :)

Highlander 03-06-2003 08:10 PM

If you removed the fork shift then just line it up and shake it easier with a tranny jack...

xxsaint69x 03-06-2003 08:17 PM

if it doesnt want to come out the fork isnt all the way out  or maybe u didnt get all the bolts out

Dave88LX 03-06-2003 08:30 PM

Well, I've got 8 bolts in my hand, and the fork is pulled out.

Actually 7 in my hand, the 8th I couldn't grab, but, it's out LOL (top right).

What the problem is, is the METAL between the two won't separate. Like, stuck togother! I try shaking, but it won't "crack".

Use a screw driver or such thing...

Just to clarify, I'm going for seam A, won't break apart.

Russtebo 03-06-2003 08:56 PM

This exact same thing happened to me even after I pulled the clutch fork, know what it was? The clutch fork... Pull down on it again, sometime you think it's disengaged but it's not....

Cory_SS 03-06-2003 09:19 PM

If I remember correctly there are dowl pins on the bellhousing....so you will need to do some prying to break it loose

you've got the fork out...so there should be nothing else holding it in

Dave88LX 03-06-2003 09:46 PM

It kinda seems like there's dowels or something, but nothing visible from the outside. I said **** the jack and creeper, and just tried to manhandle it out, I was able to get it to rock a little, pop free to crack open a tiny slot, but, nothing that got it out :(

...man I've had the same problem you're having, and you just need to break it loose from the dowel pins

It's like wrestling an alligator till you get it loose...best I can explain it

...forgot to add that it will help greatly if you take the pressure off the input shaft since the tranny sags down...so what you have to do is jack up the rear of the tranny and pry where you have seam A in your pic

I did'nt have a jack, just an extra set of hands but thats all it took...get that weight off the input shaft and get the dowels out of a bind, then it should pop loose
