Canfield heads

Canfield heads
There are some canfield heads on ebay. They are bare. Anyone know if these things are worth an investment.
I figure with port work, valves, retainers, springs, these heads will cost as much as some AFR's.
Any thoughts?

Check "DaveW 396ci" website. He had the Canfields and wasn't too happy with them, at least not the way they came from the factory.

George Baxter use Canfields on his 1,125HP, 9.04-second 30th SS Convert, but I would estimate he had at least $5K of major rework into them.

Thanks for the quick reply's. I did talk to Dave directly on his heads. He did have quite a bit of work done to them.
I think I'll pass on these and look for something else. Thanks for the thoughts

George Baxter gained over 100 hp by going to the Canfields from wildly worked LPE LT4 heads. He did have an insane amount of money invested in the port work though. Canfields HAVE to be ported, the stock castings were meant to provide alot of meat for porting purposes. I have a feeling that whether or not you are happy with them depends on the port work but more importantly how well matched the headwork is to the cam you run. My humble two cents of course.
