Can you put dual valve springs on stock heads?

I bought my car used and it has dual valve springs and 1.6 roller rockers. I'm just wondering if you can put on dual valve springs without machining the LT1 heads or not, or if my heads have some machine work done to them...

Well i physically see 2 valve springs, one monster one on the outside, and one smaller one on the inside of the outter valve spring. What would a dampner look like?

Oh yeah, they are purplish in color if that helps....

Another edit... The intake manifold has definatly been off, there is red sealent around the base, so I'm thinking the heads might have been off too. I really wish I knew what was done to my car when i bought it, oh well. Other than chrome valve covers, 1.6 roller rockers, and the dual valve springs everything else was 100% stock. Oh yeah when I changed the headers, the back bolt on each manifold was loose, so the exhaust manifolds might have been off.

yes you can put dual valve springs on in fact it is recomended if you have a big cam, it just makes them stronger so it wont break, and if there is sealant around the intake it could have just be off to replace the intake gasket , cuz there is no gasket for the front and rear of the intake so you use silicone.

A dampener would be a flat coil spring inside a regular valvespring, like in this pic:

Notice inside the main spring there is a flat wound spring? That's a damper. There's also a smaller valve spring inside the damper spring.

There's no dampner, just a smaller spring inside the monster outside one.

Comp 986 springs are duals with a dampner and they fit in stock heads no machining.

Also Crane 99893 springs are duals with dampner and fit in stock heads no machining.

Both are basically same exact spring setup, but the cranes, if bought in the kit will not have locators, just flat plates in the spring seat.

Comps will have a steel locator at the bottom, and will look a slight amount beefier.
