Can rear diff be rebuilt?

I think I may be showing signs of "one wheel peel" and was wondering if I could have the rear diff serviced while having the gears installed or am I required to replace the entire diff. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

my rear was whining, so yeah, rebuilt the rear, and threw in new gears while was at it.

Your posi needs to be rebuilt. Rear-ends can definately be rebuilt but you need some special measuring tools and some knowledge.

I am pretty sure that stock differential are not rebuildable. Plus you can pick an SLP takeoff for $99.00. If you wanted a rebuildable posi I would highly recommend going with an Eaton posi.

Got a link to the SLP take-offs or do I just call them? 100 bucks? Sweeet, should be able to replace that right along with the gears without any extra work correct?

From what I'm hearing the stock unit cannot be rebuilt. This makes me miss my Mustang that much more. Easily have the clutch paks replaced.

How strong are the SLP units?

Is there a more complete way to troubleshoot the rear other than just looking for one wheel peel?

i think the take off diff is hte same that come on the newer z28s/transams, if so, ive seen many do 1.5s-1.8 60's for a while now. either way, its better than paying 350? 450 for an eaton

If SLP is on backorder, these guys have them: http://www.reiderracing.com/zexeltorsen.htm

Its the T2. They bought them up since the SS was scrapped. I think they were just over $100. I got the T2R though, makes a big difference in racing w/ turns

I didn't know the posi units cannot be rebuilt. I assumed they could like the ford 8.8s.

But the rear can still be "rebuilt" meaning the bearings, seals, etc. can still be replaced. I had the bearings and seals replaced in mine last year.

Ok, final question.

Is the differential a bolt in item or do I have to reset the gears as far as pinion depth, lash, etc......?

I'm not 100% on this, but I would assume that since the ring gear mounts the posi unit (diff) you'll have to reset the clearances on the gears after the swap.
