can i have my car vavumme tested?
Buy a vacuum gage, they aren't very expensive. You can hook it up to a vacuum fitting on the driver side of the intake manifold.
Take a reading at idle, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000, 3500, 4000.
Also take an idle reading when the engine is cold.
The gage is usaully marked with a green zone (16-24 inches)meaning normal, and a red zone (under 12 inches) meaning a possible leak or other problem.
My '94 idles at about 22 inches.
Vacuum gages were very usefull on older, carburetted engines. Modern fuel injection and computer control can mask certain symptoms that would otherwise show up with a vaccum gage, but vacuum gages are still useful. I used one to possitively diagnose a plugged CAT.
