Camaro Lt1
DOES ANYONE HAVE A CAMARO LT1 1993-1997 THAT HAS OVER 187,000 MILES ON THE ENGINE WHICH MY '94 CURRENTLY HAS.IT HAS NOT BEEN REBUILT AS FAR AS I KNOW.I HAVE HAD MINE SIX YEARS AND 90,OOO OF THOSE MILES WERE PUT WITH MY FOOT.MY QUESTION IS,HOW LONG CAN THIS ENGINE LAST?
Depends how it has been taken care of. Its not unheard of for a SBC to easily pass the 200K mile mark on the odometer. Also, you might want to not type in all caps, people will think you are shouting.
Well actually my uncle has a 96 caprice with a Lt1 and he uses it for taxi . This car is actually on the road atleast 20 hours a day , When he got the car it had 65,000 and now 7 years later it has 432,291 miles . This car gets an oil change evry week and is well maitained so i dont think you would have a problem if you take carre of it. This is on the original motor and the third rebuilt trans and the same rear. It is amazing how long a car can last if you take care of it. At the same company he works for they have a 99 crownviv with a 4.6 that has hit over 600,000 miles it smokes a little but that thing is a work horse. Why do you think the police and taxi companies used the caprices they know that those cars are built to last.
Sorry , for the caps,i wasn't paying attention to how i was typing. Thanks for the info.I have always took care of it.There is no leaks,it doesn't run hot ,but the valvetrain is starting to tick a good bit.I was thinking of rebuilding the heads ,new cam,and timing set.leaving the bottom for later. What does anyone else think i should do?

own car. What is it that *you* want to do? I'd say you have plenty
of miles left on the engine. A well-maintained V8 should see well
over 225k miles.
There is nothing wrong with working the upper end now and doing
the lower end at a later time, yet opinions will vary. For me, I am
going to wait and do everything at once - I want everything 'like new'
all at the same time (sans bolt-ons).

I do have a exhaust leak, but trust me i am not your average woman.I know the difference between an exhaust leak and valvetrain noise. And the noise i hear is coming from under the valve covers, and is alot faster sound than an exhaust leak. But thank you for the tip.I really do appreciate it.

One of my '97 Z28's has 107k on it. Will run like a scalded dog again as soon as I get the ignition problem sorted out that started 2 days ago. My other '97 Z28 has 208k on it. Blew a head gasket 2 weeks ago. Before that it was quite impressive. I run both of them hard.
