Camaro 96 v6 to v8 engine swap

Hello all,

I have a 1996 Camaro with a v6 and automatic transmission. I would like to swap it with an LT1 engine and a manual transmission. I have very little experience with this. Is there any pointers or advice that you guys may have that might help with the sawp?

Thanks!

If you go to the "V6 Tech" forum, there is a "sticky" thread dealing with engine swaps.

Before you get too deep into the swap mode, ask yourself if selling your Camaro and buying one that is already LT1 and 6 speed equipped is more realistic or reasonable. Now if you have an emotional connection to your car, then go for it. There are lots of older threads here that can really help out. I'm putting a LT1 (that we built to a 383) into an 83 Camaro. On and off, we've been working on this for almost 2 years. There is more to it than most guys admit, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. If you are doing it for fun and not on a time schedule, do it. If it's your daily driver.........forget about it.

I totally agree with you on that one;My first car was a 93 V6 automatic and within a couple yrs i wanted a V8 manual, was thinking to swap the v6 out and get the V8 in with a manual, but thought of it and realized that'd be a PITA to do,so i sold my V6 for 2500 and used that to save up to get a V8 for 3500:)

Apparently not very important - "rocketman051894" has not returned to the site since he made his first post.

Thank you all for your responses. I have decided to go ahead with the swap. I am doing this for fun and for the learning experience. I have already bought the engine, transmission, and wiring harness for the car. I have removed the old engine and trans and am waiting for parts to mount the new one on the K member. Also, Injuneer, I have been extremely busy and have not had the time to sit down and write a reply. Thank you for assuming I have all the time in the world to do so... Ill post images when I find more time to do so.

Thanks all

Just keep working on it. While doing our swap, we do a little then quit for a while. My swap deals with an 83 body and a 95 LT1 which has more problems to figure out. We are teaching ourselves how to weld so we can install frame strengtheners. These unibodies have too much flex.
