Cam on stock airbox/Filter

 Ok, I think I need to step up to something that allows more airflow. I cut the entire front off my airbox...so its just the filter down inside the wheel well. With my old setup I noticed a big difference... It was pulling much more air into the engine. Earlier I started the car and noticed this F-16 like sucking noise. I realized that a stock filter cant properly feed this cam...

Would I be able to use a K&N Drop in and have good results? or with a CAI kit be that much better than just the drop in?? Thanks guys.

Would say, a 3" pipe work, or do you guys think that would be too small? I'm beginning to wonder if my homeade CAI with 3" Exhaust turndown (polished) from an autozone cone air filter may not be letting in enough air? I also have the constant sucking sound, especially when I shut it off, I get a woosh. I don't plan on buying a CAI because I plan on upgrading to RamAir in the spring.

I just dont think the cheap/stock(autozone for example) air filter lets in enough air. At Oreillys here in town they had a display with two filters. One was a stock replacement the other was a K&N drop in. It sucked air thru the filter and push a lightweight ping pong ball in the air.

The K&N would push the ball way up to the top..and the drop in filter wouldnt even move the ball an inch.

This is the machien im talking about
