Cam selection question (keep it or dump it)
Hey guys. I had a question on my cam. I'm going through the install now but it's still going to be a few weeks until I have money for a new opti and a few little things, so I've been rethinking my cam selection.
The setup on the car is: Stock bottom end LT1 Lloyd Elliot Stage 2 LT1 heads Long Tubes Ported Intake 58mm TB 4.10 gears Spec 4 clutch Etc.. My area of concern is this: The cam I bought second hand, it's a custom grind that was designed to be used with the stock bottom end. The previous owner said it was supposed to be shifted at 6300 (which is what I wanted for my bottom end). The specs are 224/230 .595/.595 108 lsa. I'm thinking this might be a little small and I might be able to get a little more power while staying within my limit of the stock bottom end. What do you think? |
okay, the duration is about right on, that lift is HUGE
|
I'd give it a try. Mine is smaller than that and the shift points are 6400 1st to 2nd, and 6300 to 3rd gear. 222/226 mid .5xx lift on a 112. Yours sounds interesting and would like to see the results when your finished.

that should be a hellofa cam!!! I would stick with it, and I hope those numbers are on 1.6's, because you could always go to 1.52's to drop it down a bit. If its anything like some other cams I have read about, it should drive really well, have good mid range, and be a monster up top. all around, ideal.

Run it, I've seen that cam or one very similar run great times with the same heads.

You guys are doing a good job convincing me to keep it haha
What trap speeds do you think my setup could see? Assume stock weight, 10 bolt, 6speed car with a driver that can BANG gears. |
well, id assume a 10 minute 1/4, since thats how long its going to take you to push it down the track after you shatter that stock 10 bolt.
id say 118 or so |
I'm running a 224/230 605/622 112 custom cam. It will pull hard to the mid-6k rpms.

id say 118 or so My goal for the project is 120, even if I have to lighten the car. |
