Cam Question
 

Have a 95 z28 with listed mods and a Lunati 54760LUN Cam. I'm debating a cam swap. Would the CC503 be worth the cost to upgrade. It would cost me about 250 to have cam installed.

Hard to say whether it'd be 'worth it' or not.

What's 'worth it' to you may be a lot different from what's 'worth it' to me.......and vice-versa.

But.....the 503 is a significant enough of an upgrade over your current cam that in, addition to the cost of the cam and the $250 install......you'd also need to find good pricing on PCM tuning......and a probable valve sping upgrade.

The car has all the supporting mods already and pcm will be tuned regardless of the decision. I'm not very knowledgeable in this area and I pretty much was hoping to find out if someone could give an estimate of the difference in hp for the two.

Well.....you really haven't provided enough information for a 'good' estimate to be given.

What can you tell us about your setup?

Engine.....compression ratio.....Quench (if you know it)?
Heads and valvetrain.....what are the specs? Aftermarket, ported, stock?
Intake......stock or ported?
Throttle Body......how many millimeters.....aftermarket......stock?
Exhaust......just shorties (brand) and a muffler upgrade?

Without this info, giving you any kind of estimate wouldn't even amount to a decent guess.

While what KW said is true, his comments speak to what your engine cold do with each of these cams. If you look at it theoretically though and make the assumption that everything is equal with the heads, etc, I'd think the Comp Cams piece would be worth about 25 more rear wheel horses than the Lunati just by virtue of the longer duration and higher lift.....

I will add another thought to what has been said. If you did the comp cam you would see even greater increase with head work in the future if you chose not to swap cam again. My guess is the tuners base tune would probably be easier with it as well as its a popular choice for an off the shelf grind.

The Comp cams 503 is a very popular cam for people with stock casting heads. good driveability and decent power for the cost.
as stated your going to need a tune, and probably new valve springs.

you would probably have more fun if you put different gears in the rear end like a 3.90 or 4.10 (assuming your stock geared) ...it would be a more "noticeable" mod.

I did not mean the hp of my setup when i asked for hp estimates. I was referring to one cam compared to the other under the same setup. Sorry I was not clear. The car does have stock gearing and hopefully 4:10's in the near future. The car is not a daily driver but I would like to keep it driveable as i would like to cruise around and drive it to the track on occasions.
