Cam for LT1
I have a CAI, TB, headers and exhaust on my LT1. I have a programmer and I am not looking to do big things with this car. I just want some more horses under the hood. Which size cam would be best for me?

cam and lifters is a pretty big job on these cars. u may be happy with switching to a 1.6 roller rockers setup.

LT4 hotcam, CC503, GM846, Crane 227, are all cams I'd look at

btw if you have a handheld programmer like a hypertech, don't even waste your time using it

The cc503 cam is pretty widely used around here... Lots of people are running it with great results. A lot of people are also running the similar cc305 cam and are having good results with stock heads. I suggest you choose one of those with 1.6 rr's and change your springs to a higher quality piece. I changd out my pushrods with Thunder Racing's pushrods when I was in there, even though I don't think I'm going to have anything to worry about with such a small cam. Our cars are a very similar setup. I believe you will like the results.
Also, as mentioned above the 1.6 roller rockers will give you a nice gain and are far less costly and difficult to install. I might caution you though that if you choose to go this route don't cheap out. Buy from a reputable company like Comp, Crane, etc. Scopion, Proform, and the like may be cheaper, but most people here are not really inclined to support those brands. I personally found a nice set of used Crane 1.6 NSA rr's on the forum here. That was the route I chose when I was doing the top end on my motor. I hope this has been helpful. |

imo thats a pretty big cam. ull need to change the valve springs and retainers and to realize the potential of the cam ull need to port the heads and intake.

He will need new springs/hardware though, and if he puts 1.6 rocker on their the lifts numbers will be right around .600 I bet. I think I'd recommend a cc503 (just like everyone else) for a stock headed car. |
yes but he did say hes not looking for big hp gains and i was trying to let him know that putting a cam that size in would require added mods and to get the bang for the buck more mods would be in order. bomb with all that good stuff done to your motor why havnt you done your heads and intake yet?
