Cam?!?!?!?!?!?

Well I purchase a Cam about a month ago from an individual off of the net wheich always scares me. It is supposed to be an LT4 hotcam. Well I finally took my old one out last night and to me it looks like the same damn thing. I didn't have a mic with me so I could'nt measure it. So I am wondering is there a big differance in size between a stock cam and the lt4 cam? I mean can you tell by looking at it? I am so scared tha this guy sent me a stock cam. It's new and I asked him and he said he was positive that it was a lt4 hotcam. Anyway Thanks guys

Re: Cam?!?!?!?!?!?

Chances are you wont really be able to see it from the naked eye. Look for the part number on the end of the cam, if its a hotcam it should have a gm part number different from the one on your stock cam. Plug that part number from the hot cam into a search and see what you come up with.

Re: Cam?!?!?!?!?!?

You need the number off of the cam. There's know way of telling by physically looking at it.

Re: Cam?!?!?!?!?!?

or just measure the difference in the base circle and the the max lift across the lobe, the hotcam will have a larger difference.

Cool Re: Cam?!?!?!?!?!?

Well Its not a hotcam but rather one with the same exact specs. Supposively(SP) The guy I got it from works at the place that supplies GM with theirs. I don't know. He and I are communicating good though. So He said he will check just to make sure. There is a number on it.

586 and 02706L

I don't know if that helps are not. Thats the only numbers on the cam though.

Thanks Guys I am very appreiciative. (SP)

Re: Cam?!?!?!?!?!?

Well I stick the fuggin thing in. Get my timing chain back on. Get all of the PITA OIL pan and timing chain cover bolts in and torqued to specs. Go to stick on my Opti and low and behold the Damn hole on the cam for the shaft on the optispark is to damn small, it will slide in a little but then won't go any further. Everything is lined up right but the actual hole in the cam looks to be to small. I am so pissed right now.

Re: Cam?!?!?!?!?!?

Can you get a pic? - - Aren't there differences in 93-94 cams compared to 95 + or something like that?

Re: Cam?!?!?!?!?!?

I bet this cam is made for an earlier year. The hole in the middle looks like the one in the 93. has anyone ran into this before. You cant bore the hole out in the cam a little can you???

Re: Cam?!?!?!?!?!?

Well I was thinking about taking the old one and the new one to a machine shop and having them do it. Prob cheaper than buying a 93 opti.

Re: Cam?!?!?!?!?!?

I guess I don't understand sticking a cam in a car when you have no clue what the specs really might be?

Are you installing all the proper supporting components in like the correct springs? etc?

Has all the makings of big problems or a 15 second "cammed" LT1

I second that one. Plus I didn't think an LT4 hotcam would come with an early opti style end.

I'm thinking you got scammed. Either that or the guy that sold you that doesn't know what he's talking about, or he got scammed as well...

Re: Cam?!?!?!?!?!?

Its ridiculous to go through all of that work to install a cam that you have no idea what its specs are...Get your money back or chaulk it up to experience and do it right the first time...Create goals for your car and build around that...
