Building the top of an LT1
Now that I have a daily driver, I have more time to work on the camaro, and keep it parked for a while.
The first thing im planning to work on the the top of the engine...everything from bigger fuel injectors to 1.6 roller rockers...I want to get this baby ready for a nice cam... LT1 guys..any suggestions? |
Re: Building the top of an LT1
What do you have done so far?
I'd do CAI, headers and catback before I did a cam. Injectors aren't necessary until you do the cam Rockers can be done ahead of time, they will be a nice gain even on a stock cam. But you really want to do at least the CAI and Catback first. Keep in mind that if you intend to do a cam later you may want to switch to NSA rockers now instead of doing SA now and having to replace them with NSA later. |

Awesome! it sounds like 1.6:1 rockers and a chip are your next mods :)

Re: Building the top of an LT1
thanks man...i have some custom computer work already...
my question is with regards to everything under the valve cover. retainers, roller rockers, injectors, valves...what should i be looking at? |
Re: Building the top of an LT1
Depends on the heads and cam choice really.
Assuming you are going with a CC306 or LE2 type setup, Comp Beehive springs Comp Pro Magnum rockers GMPP Guideplates Comp 850-16 lifters Comp Magnum (1-peice) pushrods 30 or 36# flow matched injectors 2.00" / 1.56" valves Don't forget to port the intake manifold to match the heads (if / when you do heads) and look into going with a 58mm TB. My project parts list is at http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2297151/4 |

Is there a reason for suggesting a "chip" over a mail order tune or dyno tune? |

Sorry, I should have clarified that. I've been driving Speed Density cars too long :D |
Re: Building the top of an LT1
You generally don't need injectors for "just a cam".... if that's what you're going with...
I ran extremely well for 3 years with my cc503 and stock 97 injectors. |
Re: Building the top of an LT1
Sort of confusing... he never mentioned heads, but people have him porting the intake manifold to match the heads and going to a 58mm TB, both of which are not necessary without a good set of heads. And obviously as Javier mentioned, no need for larger injectors at this point.

to do heads with the cam (he did ask about valve size). Javier and Injuneer are absolutely correct, you don't need ported manifold, injectors and a larger TB for cam-only. |

Re: Building the top of an LT1
Have you flushed out the radiator/cooling system? Does the V6 ones run a different rad than the V8 cars? I see you swapped it so its something to look into. Maybe your primary fan isnt kicking on when it should ?
