Broken Opti bolt

When replacing the opti I broke the bolt off that is on the passenger side. I realize I can remove the crank hub and timing cover, but I would prefer not to. My question is: Is it possible to tap the timing cover bolt entry hole and secure the opti with a shorter bolt in the timing cover rather than the block per original design?
Thanks,
Mike

Maybe, but your timing cover may leak without the normal bolt going all the way through and securing both it and the opti. People need to realize that these bolts only require 106 lb. in. to secure. Cover bolts are 100 lb. in. I've seen a rash of broken cover bolt threads lately.
