Mine works fine with the hazards also that is what led me to think it is my flasher relay. You should be able to get them from any auto parts store I would think. Can't be more then $30 hopefully. I will try to do mine this weekend and see if it fixes my problem, and I will let you know the cost.

The flasher is only a few bucks at your local auto supply or Walmart, etc.

I too have the problem with my tail lights and blinkers. I would recomend going through a junk yard for the sockets. For what the dealer wanted I got a whole tail light wire harness. I switched my sockets out and came to find that I have a bad wire. I used an multimeter to check both sides and found my driver side blinker wires weren't getting any power. I hope to switch out the entire wire harness. I paid $30 from Speed Automotive.

I find it hard to be a socket since mine work with the hazards which operate the same lights and uses the same socket. That is what leads me to believe it is the flasher unit. If the socket indeed is bad it surely should not work with the hazards either.

Right, and more if you do a search

but before you do ANYTHING, i suggest you just go out and buy 2 of those blinker/brake light bulbs and change em on the affected side, even if they stay "lit".

you might think the bulb is ok since it stays lit (not burnt out) but sometimes they aren't burnt out but give the socket troubles.

check the bottom for corrosion too.

it's cheap and solves many of these problems, including the "does not work, but works if i jiggle or hit the taillight"

if this does not work, then go to the socket or blinker fix, but it worked on my 94Z

99% of all blinker related problems are caused by either a bad bulb or socket. Replace all of your bulbs for the side not working and inspect the connections in the sockets...cleaning if necessary. That should more than likely fix your problem.

One thing that no one has mentioned. The actual blinker controls are mounted behind the steering wheel in the steering colomn. I have never tried to replace one of these on a car with an airbag and wouldn't try it myself but I have had to replace one on my old Chevelle. This could also be the problem.

Slow Ride I believe that mine might be behind my steering wheel. When I took off my knee bolster I did not see the hazard flasher or the blinker flasher like the pic that one of the other members posted. I did see the convience center but there was no flasher unit. Looks as if I might have to take it somewhere.

Hopefully I don't get charged too much.

Cool

Socket.Pull the black wire off(ground),and peel it back,as to expose the brass looking wire, pull the bulb out, stick the wire into the socket,so as to be along side the bulb, then, place the bulb back in.The dealer wanted $56.00 for a new socket(front). After they picked me up off the floor,I went to Kragen Auto parts, and there it was.Hanging all alone, smiling at me.It's called (twist-lock 1 1/4" focal length socket.Part #85822.Fits G.M. vehicles from 1982-1995.Exact replacement.$6.00.Hope this helps.(Spend the savings on refreshments after you fix this problem, and stand back and be proud.)

That may work for your car but I on the other hand have a 96 which is not 82-95

I still don't believe it is my socket, since my 4 ways work and only my turn signal does not. It is just not possible to work with one and not the other. Maybe I am wrong, but I will have to look into it more this weekend, if I find nothing it will go somewhere to be fixed. I don't have the time to fiddle with it working the hours I do and I don't like driving without a blinker.

Very curious that you did not find the flashers like the pic I posted. They should be there. The 1996s should be like the 1995s in this regard. It could be that someone did not put the turn signal flasher back in it's holder and it is dangling somewhere else under there. If one side turn signal does work, just turn it on and chase the sound. This ain't rocket science.

They're right. The flasher is a small silver cylinder to the left of the steering column. Some models, in a clip but same general area. Keep in mind that ONE side of the flasher can be bad. You can pick it up at Autozone and such for around $5.
Had the same problem twice. Once was the flasher, once was a bad ground wire to my left rear blinker. If you ever want to replace those sockets, try Junkyarddog.com and fill out a parts request. They send it out to like 4000 salvage yards. I got my sockets for $5-$8 each. They're like $50 from GM.
