Big cam guys with stock lifters?

Hey there guys,

I am finishing up my cam/Al heads install tonight and I am wondering how long until my stock lifters blow up. I have the crane version of the GM 846. 222/230 @.050 -> .544/.564 w/1.6's. Should I back off the rockers to 1.5's? Any input?
Are any CC306 guys running stock lifter with 1.6's?

Thanks a lot,
Matt

Im running a bigger cam than that and the 306 with 1.6 rockers, and stock lifters. When i did the cam swap i just made sure they all looked ok, they had 65k on them, looked great, and didnt replace them. So far so good.

atljar,
Thanks for the reply. I am just really apprehensive about all that spring pressure (CM612K->~340lbs fully open) crushing my stock lifters. It sounds like you have a more aggressive setup than I and have had no problems. I hope that is the case for me as well. Thanks again,
Matt

Same here, except I'm still running stock 1.5 rocker arms. I had 35k on my stock lifters and they were in pristine condition. Decided to save some money and send the Crane lifters I had back. 6k miles later, no problems.

I'm running Crane 99893 springs, which have 405 pounds fully open. At least thats what the site says.

When I did my CC305 cam ( not a big cam at all) I reused my stock lifters which were in good shape. I got less than 200 miles out of my car before they collapsed. My lifters had 67,000 on them.

I have about 16000miles on a set of stock replacement lifters. Federal Mogul, 108$ About 10000 miles of which were with a ZZ409 cam and the rest with the GM847 cam which is a little bigger than the CC306 in lift and duration. So far no problems.

Everything is together, the car runs great. Thank you guys for all the information; I will keep the lifters in mind in case something goes wrong.
