best vent location for scanmaster

I want to put my scanmaster in my vents on my 94. I'm thinking of putting it in the vent by the window, but i still want my a/c to blow me effectively. So, i'm wondering which vent would be the most crucial to keeping me cool?? probably the center vent over the radio???

This is from Brent Frankers website. I think it looks good there, and I don't even notice that vent when I have the AC on.

that seems like it'd be the biggest vent as far as cooling? no?

If it were me, i'd put it to the left of the steering wheel. Theres 2 vents on that side: a lilttle one and a big one below it some. Put it in the little one, and you will still have that big one to blow you.

Those top vents don't flow much anyway. I'm putting it where Franker has his.

Re: best vent location for scanmaster

I tried putting mine in the left vent. It was a disappointing experiment. There is a separate, hard nozzle that feeds a little grill for defrosting the section of the window for the rear view mirror. This hard nozzle, as it sits will not allow the scanmaster to reside in that vent unless you remove the nozzle and lose function and benefit of it. I wish I would have taken a picture of the layout but if you remove the instrument bezel you will see what I am refering to immediately.

I ended up repairing that adjustable left vent nozzle and proceeded to put it where Brent has his installed.

I have mine located in the left vent and it ties in well with my dual gauge pod that's mounted on the A pillar. No issues with defroster on drivers side. I also had very little air flowing out of the upper vent previously to the install.

I'm not doubting you on this OBE1_95Z28 but I would like to see a picture of your installation. The left brow vent is where I wanted to put mine but found interference once the dash pad and bezel were removed. I'm wondering what is different with your dash vent setup from mine. Both of my eyebrow vents had good flow and I noticed the loss after the installation when using my A/C last week.

Re: best vent location for scanmaster

I removed my ScanMaster from its plastic housing to mount it in my vent. From the outside, it looks just like the photo on Brent's website, except it's mounted in the left eyebrow.

Re: best vent location for scanmaster

That explains why you had the room to mount it there. I only needed another inch in the front to back spacing. I'm going to guess the PCB with its components is really just a few inches square with only a couple of chips and resistors. As small as the Scanmaster is, it could be made even smaller. I'm not going to open the case on mine but I sure would have liked to have put it where you have yours. Thanks for the explanation.
