Best lt1 cold air period.

Ive been looking around for the best cold air kits, i know most of you will say the k and n kit i have is fine, but after really looking at it, it has serious faults for real time airflow, for starters its massive tube and then bends for the radiator ext.....can't be good for air speed....on top of that there is bairly any room past that part for the tubes up top. While it makes ok power im thinking the slp desighn or the ram air hood 1 would make more as i have an ss hood that i can make functional. Still have the stock maf and maf ends to, which i know are good for a few hp. Saw a granetelli maf claiming 10 rwhp lmao. Dought thats for real...any ideas on how to build a stout intake for air speed with minor bends let me know, i think slp has nailed this 1.

aluminum elbow and airfoil_ 55$
4in rubber pipes and pvc pipe from HomeDepot_30$
4in ebay filter_11$
composite ported mafs ends_45$
sounds like a hurricane it takes in so much air, throttle response is where it should be and it really helped open up the top end .
the filter sits nice and snug in the bumper and even in heavy rain it had but a few drop of water on it..onky concern would be going through standing water which ,why would you in an fbody ??

Re: Best lt1 cold air period.

Very nice, what about that stock piece your using there? ALL looks good but that 1 ive never had....does it have any bends inside or restrictions?

Re: Best lt1 cold air period.

I looked at the inside of the stock piece and the restriction is very very little. It's opened up in other area to keep the propped amount of air flow rather than just bottle necking it..
and my buddy tried it on his car and said he could feel better throttle response in it vs his k&n but he still had that attached to the stock elbow, which I can't see being much of a restriction ..
so k&n with stock elbow VS my aftermarket elbow ,mafs ends and 4in tube comking off stock pinch tube mine with butt dyno was better and like 1/3 the price too.

The lid setup for a 98-02 F-body like this Fast Toys Performance with the 98mm lid, and ram air setup. However this will require modification to the hood or a cowl style rise hood.

1) yup a lid with the under ram air scoop

2) a real cai like either KN/moroso, 1le elbow, ported maf ends descreened, scoop made into the underside plastic.

3) factory ram air box

I have #2 and 3 already, working on #1. It aint cheap without cutting.

Btw, ram air box is for sale if interested.

Honestly, if You have the K&N CAI I would not change it. It would be a waste of money. How much power are you making? I'm sure it's not more than the K&N can handle.
Also, change that K&N filter to a Green Filter. It will be a little better.

Where and who makes the green ones?

Has anyone here made/used something like the Corvette style? I believe I have seen a few pictures of one. Basically just a tube straight over the radiator support and then down in front of the radiator itself. I would think this would would easier to do with the low hood clearence.

Ram Air hood works pretty good. SLP made them for both the Camaro (Ultra Z) and the Firebird (Ram Air HO):

496 HP at the flywheel. Can’t remember torque. Built to pass NJ emissions.

Very nice setup the air intake im sure helps a bit when actually on the road. I am going to stick with the K and N for now just because i don't want to bother with more money as i can put it to another mod, but when i get close to full boltons i may consider something like you have, i already have an SS hood just need to do a cutout.

Re: Best lt1 cold air period.

I hope that you're not going to cut up a real SS hood.
Also, follow this link for the green air Filter.
