Beehive 918 users (with titainium retainers) inside please.
 

I want to run the CCA-26918 springs but which titanium reatiners, locks, and seats are you using. I am concerned with the spring sitting correctly on the seat.

I was told to use comp - 787. That is what a comp cam tech told me.

Be careful there the 787 is a steel retainer, last I heard guys were having trouble finding a titanium retainer to properly fit Gen1/2 valves as the current titanium beehive retainers were for the LS1 severely screwing up installed height because the valvestems are different diameters.

The 918s with steel retainers is going to be quite effective and I really question the benifit of titanium retianers with the already so small retainers of the beehives. I am not saying don't do it I am just saying be careful with the parts selection and think again wether you really need or want to shell out for titanium because like I said with the retainers already being so small and light the benifits will be nowhere near as great as they are with a traditional spring package, and the beehives can control a lot more cam with less pressure than standard so these springs are going to be very capable of controlling most cams without any expensive lightening of additional parts.
If you do find a gen1/2 titanium beehive retainer please post it up though it might allow others to use the 915s(lighter) with slightly bigger cams and still feel safe.

I'm going with the 918 beehives also. You will also need the spring cup set, pt #4705 along with the chromoly retainers, pt #787.

With my LT1 stock heads, the installed height with the 4705's, 787 retainers, and +.050 locks was approx. 1.74". The recommended installed height according to comp cams is 1.80". Therefore, since I'm pulling the heads off anyway, the spring seats will need to be grinded down just a tad to get the correct installed height. Another option I have is to get +.100 longer valves and use standard keepers. This should put the installed height very close to 1.80".

At this point, I am also thinking about going with the trick flow heads. I wonder if the beehives will fit on these heads?

I have Manley Race-Flo 2.00I 1.55E valves. I will have to double check them but I believe they are longer than stock.

I've been told 787 retainers and the stock seats would be fine.
I'd like to know if anyone's heard different b/c I'm installing them next week.

Be very careful listening to comp cams tech. They make good cams but their tech line assistance personel aren't engine builders. I trust people here Like AI, and nighttrain66 much more. Email ron and AI I'm sure he won't mind pointing you in the right direction.

For the LT1/LT4 builds, I use the Manley valve and Ti keeper setup.

What is your normal installed height? Are you using longer valves or standard length?

I am measuring approx. 1.73" to 1.74" installed height with the 26918 beehive spring, chromoly retainers, 4705 spring seats, +.050" keepers, and standard valve length. I figured since the heads are coming off, to mill down the spring seat .050", this would yield an installed height of 1.79". The recommended installed height is 1.80".

I wanted to use the titanium retainers, but they are expensive. Are they that much better than the chromoly retainers?

My 210cc AFR heads have 2.08/1.60 and valves are 0.50 long.. What should be the height?? I will use 26918 springs..

Im runnin' the 918 springs, along with the 794 tit.retainers, and set the spring up at 1.75" installed height...Bret Bauer recommended parts,etc...

Due to the lighter weight of the springs(versus double valve springs) steel retainers can be used. I asked Lloyd this same question when I went from 987 double springs and titanium retainers to the 918 and steel retainers. You can also use the stock lt1 locators. My installed height with my le2 383 cam was 1.75. No more than 1.77 and no less than 1.74. Shims had to be used but they all came out great.

if valves 0.50 longer than stock this affects spring height???

Yes - when a valve is refered to as +.100, +.200 etc, the overall length before the keeper groove is longer. This is to allow racing applications to use taller springs that can accomidate lifts of .600" +.

We use the Ti retainers because they are included in the manley spring kit, but like has been said, the stock ones are soo small and light that they will not have a effect on potential rpm and power unless you are spinning over 7k.
