BCM bad?

BCM bad?
My brothers security light has been on for a long tme and he wants to get it fixed. We have read the codes, but none of them make any sense and are all history codes. Now I just want to replace the BCM, has anyone ever heard of a BCM going bad? Also, would he have to replace his keys with a new BCM?
