this morning my z28 lost its hood to the body shop...getting it painted(fiberglass SS hood)..then on the way home i noticed a miss ...only happens in 2nd gear around 2k rpm when under a load...not getting on it, but like going up a hill...then about an hour after i got home...my dad backed into my camaro with his big dodge van and put a nice dent in the driver side quarter panel...of course the van is fine...arg...he said hed pay to get it fixed...and its still driveable, so i guess its not that bad...anyway...any ideas on the misfire?...im parenoid about the plugs...according to autozone they were pregapped at .050 (bosch dual platinums) ...but i never double checked the plugs...i know i should have, but did the plugs when i did the header install and i was anxious to get the headers in...it has about 800 miles on the plugs...if one was misgapped, it would cause a misfire like that right?...i dunno...any ideas welcome,

What do you mean lost its hood? They messed it up?

 

Wouldn't it be impossible to gap those plugs anyway? On a conventional plug you can slide a ramp style gauge on the plug but the Platinums with two, three, or four tips have no such way to be gapped.

Have you thought about this?

 

Does the car have a hood on it now? Was it raining while the hood is/was off? Maybe you got water on some electrical components if it was raining...Cough *opti* cough... no but really sounds like you had a crappy day. My car was having a stumble in 2nd and third and it turned out to be the IM leak

 

haha...it lost its hood cause i took it off so it could get painted...no it was not raining on the car without the hood...i dunno whats goin on with it...

 

Bosch plugs are crap. Thats pretty much all I have to say.

maybe you have a leak on your intake between the tb and maf.

 

Its the plug wires because of the headers use Accell Extream 9000 and make sure the wires are not hitting any headers.

no, i checked all the plug wires, and none are burned...i think im gonna change the plugs and see if that helps...i just dropped the car off at the body shop, $350 to pull out the dent and paint/buff ...guess thats not that bad...but no camaro untill the day i leave for college

 

Now there is an intelligent statement. That opinion is crap. There are PLENTY of people running the bosch plugs with great results. It's NOT the plugs fault.

The Bosch's do come PreGapped at something other than .05. It is the equivilent of .05 though because of the nonconventional design. The different bosch part numbers specify different gaps on the same base plug.

Maybe that is why some people think they are crap, they didn't notice the warnings and regapped theirs or heard of someone who did. I know this has happend at LEAST a couple of times.

You'll be wasting a lot of time if you swap out your sparkplugs. And if you do and it doesn fix it, i still won't believe it was the plugs unless you have a damaged one. It would be seating of a wire or something else you distrubed while working under the hood

 

Are you running Bosch plugs in your Fbody??? Probably not, why, if they aren't that bad of a plug? I just would never run them in mine. Maybe in my olds cutlass, but never my trans am. Just my .02.
