Back Pressure is good!

Got Lt's and had header mufflers, finally got a new exhaust which eleminated most of the vibrations thank god... but their is so much more upper pulling power, i belive its like trying to take a $h1t without a fart behind it sure you can do it but its gonna be hard!

Very nice little metaphor! I am sure you'll get a hefty amount of flames though.

Well, its the truth I was thinking with my friend i mean it was powerfull before no doubt, but i was like man that 2 1/2 into glasspacks with turndowns made a world of differnce I mean it would slam you back into the seat all over again, and i was like i wonder how its possible then i bust out with that comment and he's like you know thats true and makes good sence, its hard to **** without a fart am i not correct well same with an engine to im sure, i mean ive open'd the ******* up all ready with lt's so i guess some back pressure actually helps all around, and my gas milage went wayyy up compaired to before!

By no means am I saying its not true, just that most people on here say that backpressure is a myth. I just liked the fart comment Glad you could open up your car more. BTW I am running a cat with my headers for several reasons

More than likely you were getting knock retard before and now it is gone because of the noise. I know I gained 1.5 MPH with my cutout, so backpressure is not good in my car.
Also possible is that when the car is louder it feels slower to you.
All in all try getting the et, and see for yourself!

I think that's true also. Oh well, I don't have backpressure either, and it feels fine. Nice metaphor BTW.

Thank you, as welll Im thinking of ordering the LT4 Knock Module to from gm parts direct for 30.00 just incase of knock retard, i also read that the more knock and stuff you have will effect your shifting !

Backpressure is a good thing to a point when it increases your exhaust velocity which helps cylinder scavenging. With our stock exhausts we have a lot of backpressure so doing things like cut-outs really help. I am pretty sure you would lose HP from straight headers to mufflers but a guy that runs a dyno service said that dynomax race bullets made another 7hp and 5 fl/lb of torque at the rear wheels on his car. So I guess it really depends on your combination.

Good post Green...a certain amount of backpressure is definately good...too much back pressure is bad...kinda like when you've got a massive fart to help push out the pooh...it pushes it out so hard you catch the backsplash on your ****...

I've heard the same. A guy in this local F-Body club did a dyno test with straight pipes and then with Bullets. He got more with the Bullets than with just straight pipes...so I guess that has to mean something.

I was talking to a friend of mine who said he could trick a car into thinking it had more backpressure. When I asked how he said: Backpressure is nothing but a soundwave in your exhaust pipe(s). So if you weld a bolt or something small that won't obstruct flow much, the sound waves that hit the bolt will travel back up the pipe(s) and the engine will "think" it has backpressure.

But is there a difference between having backpressure and "thinking" it has backpressure? Was this a bunch of ****?

back pressure is something you need on your lawn mower or maybe your 1L ricer, but not with an engine this big...

nice poop/fart reference btw
