Question Automotive wire question????

Does the wiring harness of an automobile require a certain type of wire?

Can you use 18 ga wire that is oil and gasoline resistent?

I fried the wires to the passenger side o2 sensors on my headers and I need to splice in section of new wire.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are replacing, stay with at least the same gauge. The insulation you mention sounds ok to me. The O2 wire might be a little different, as I have heard some people say it is stainless steel. Not sure of that, though. If it was different, it could make it difficult to solder. A crimp connector to regular copper wire would probably work, though I personally like soldered connections.
