Hi guys, I just got an amazing deal passed my way on a set of HVH race heads for a 1st gen SBC that have been fully ported with 2.08/1.65 valves with 69cc chambers. I would like to find out what it would take to modify these heads to run on my 94 B4C. I have seen what it takes to convert LT1 heads to use on 1st gen motors, I am wandering if it is just a revurse process. The main issue Ive been wandering about is the coolent passages in the rear of the LT1 heads for the vent tubes that run up to the front of the motor. If anyone is running 1st gen heads on there LT1 please pass some info my way to help me out. Thanks alot.

I've already posted on the advanced board with no real luck. All Im hearing is how much money is involved in converting them. I dont really need to know the cost, I just want to know whats involved in yhe process.

Hardly. Most shops can do the necessary conversion on the heads for $1k or less. Then its up to you as to what you want for an intake manifold.

That was just the conversion price.
From the Info Im getting from the guys in the advanced tech board the conversion can be done for between $200-$400. Im all for it.

Plus getting the intake holes filled/redrilled, the heads milled to fit an LTx intake if you go that route, getting the exhaust bolt holes filled/retapped (usually needed, but not always, check the bolt pattern/port layout of the heads) getting new header flanges if needed to fit the different exhaust ports, theres just a bit more involved then what you see at first glance.Originally Posted by Sleeper_Z

If you are going as far as putting some SBC heads on a motor you really shouldn't use an LTx intake in the first place. And like you mentioned, just get the correct bolt spacing for the exhaust and you are good to go. A super VIC with an edelbrock 4bbl throttlebody and a 100* elbow will go on top of almost any SBC head out there, and will be quite the setup if the valvetrain is setup properly.

The thread was just talking about the price to convert the heads to reverse cooling, intake and such is a totally seperate matter. If you were looking to any head that wasn't available for the LT1, I would assume you were looking to them for flow/power capabilities, in which case an LT1 intake manifold wouldn't be at the top of most people's list for which intake to use... Yes I know there are people who have done it, but they will admit that there is more power to be found in a single-plane manifold. You can even even go that route without cutting the cowl.
Thanks for all the info guys, I am having some second thoughts about the head convertion. Ive been looking into turboing my car for a long time and Im starting to lean that way. If I use these heads and convert to a single plane carb style intake im gonna loose all street manners and alot of low end torque due to the huge size of the intake runners of these heads(270+cc). The more research I do on these heads the more I realize they are just way too big for what I want to do with my car. Im gonna keep looking into turboing it and see where that goes. Thanks again guys.

This is a common conversion..... No Big Deal.
Spinner....Normally we get 350.00 to do the conversion...Does that mean I can sign you up for 10 sets?
