another fan switch question... sorry...

well i bought the car with a fan switch installed. its simply goes from the switch through the firewall and is jammed in the fuse box under the hood in the fan relay location. as of right now i can flip the switch and the low speed fan ( passenger side ) will come on. the other one will never come on. is there a chance the motor is burn up on the fan? also to try to find a remedy to this problem i bought a relay and took the wire out of the fuse box and installed an slp fan switch. this will not turn on either fan. here are some pictures

Get rid of the cobbled up stuff and make sure the wiring is back to stock and all fan relays are present. Then, your SLP switch should work.

still nothin. from the way it is set up stock and the slp switch installed neither fan will turn on. is it possible i have the wrong kind of relay? is there more than one kind?

The SLP switch applies a ground to either the blue or green wire from H and J of C100 (where you plugged in your switch). That should operate the relays and the fans (key ON). If everything was right, it should work. Most all small 12v automotive relays are the same. Make sure you have one in D and F in the fuse/relay panel. You can use the fog lamp relay for a spare, if you need it.

Your car's computer (PCM) is set up to energize the fan relays by grounding (sinking outputs) the dark green and dark blue wires. Therefore If the fans don't turn on by properly grounding those two wires with the switch, you have other problems. Make sure your fan switch ground is really at the same potential as the bat (-) and not a bunch of resistance in between those two points, however you got it grounded.

If you want to test your switch: -pull the fan relays (D and F) -key does not need to be ON -switch on the primary fan with the SLP switch -test for ground at terminal D2 of the D relay socket -switch on the secondary fan with the SLP switch -test for ground at terminal F5 of the F relay socket That will prove your wiring from the switch to the relay sockets. Make sure D5 and F2 have battery power when the key is ON. Make sure D1 and F4 have battery power all the time. If you want to do a quick check of the fans from the relay panel: -using a decent gauge wire for a jumper... -jumper D1 to D4 to run the primary fan -jumper F1 to F4 to run the secondary fan Beware that if you don't use a fused jumper, you have to be careful. |

A jumper is a piece of wire. A fused jumper is one with an inline fuse. You touch the ends to two indicated points to "jump" one to the other. The points you want to jump are indicated in the sockets with the relays removed.

well i tried this, got nothing on the other fan. if this helps here is a thread from the previous owner of the car when he was wiring it up. hopefully this can clear up exactally how he did it.

All that is everything I have already said (since I replied to both threads ). I recommend you do it like I have suggested. I don't advocate running 12v power wires and extra stuff that is not needed.
Be specific on what you did that you say did not work. |
