is the airpump needed?
 

when the airpump fuse is bad the fans are always on right? well if that would help with cooling, could you just take out the fuse when you want your car to run cooler? i was told that the airpump is not really needed.

The AIR pump is only used for a few minutes upon cold start up. Pulling the fuse is not what you want to do to make your car run cooler. You don't want the fans on all the time. Put in a manual fan switch if you want to turn on the fans when you want.

I have heard the airpump prevents the cats from getting clogged. However, I have yet to hear some real world results from people who have removed the airpump then later their cats clogged. Is this cat clogging an urban legend? :D

To answer your question, NO its not needed. I removed mine along with a lot of others. Do a search on it, and you'll find quite a lot of people have removed theirs. It doesn't help with HP or anything but just cleans the bay up a lil.

Do yourself a favor and get rid of it. It will probably only take 20 minutes anyways. Like Rob said, it only runs on a cold startup to get the cat/cats warmer faster.

O, yes and it is not necessary at all. Buy the M22 oil drain plugs and plug the AIR fitting on the manifolds. Then remove the pump altogether. Don't forget the plug in the intake elbow.

But since this does not correlate at all with your goals. (Cooler engine bay) I'm gonna shut up. ;) Take Shoebox's advice and save some money and trees. Install a manual fan switch for like $10-15 in parts... :)

BTW: Actually it leans out the exhaust fumes to prevent clogging. Well, actually lean gas is hotter gas, so yea.....ummm, shutting up :p
