About 1-2" of play in the steering wheel in my 96z ... wtf?
Hey all,
There's about 1-2" of play (a dead spot - no response) in the steering wheel when i turn it left/right. Anyone know what this might be caused by? A loose screw? Worn rubber or some other material? I could use some help on this plz!
thanks!

I just went through this a couple of months ago--ended up being the steering rag joint. The dealer replaced the entire steering rod w/joint and stated some rivets had become loose.
But I have to warn you that it took a lot of convincing from me for them to believe this was a problem--YMMV
The test to do is to open the hood and see if you can easily rotate the steering shaft with the engine off--this is the giveaway.
