98+ engine in a 97???

my engine is going, so is my tranny. my 97 firebird formula is NOT under warranty.

is it possible to drop a 98+ ls1 into my car w/o making any big modifications???? how much is a brand new lt1 and a brand new automatic tranny?

I've heard it's no easy task, and that you'd be better off buying a crate LT1 for you're car. I know you might like the LS1...but you can get a crate LT1 from GM WITH warranty for about $4600 plus install. That really might be a better bet.

UNLESS your just looking for a project...nothing wrong with that.

A new tranny will probably run you roughly $1200...don't know how much good rebuild would run.

Buy Summits 383 LT1 stroker engine or have a supporting vendor make you a sweet one. Buy a newly rebuild T56 or broken one and have it rebuilt.

yes they are goig, very badly. and after labor and everything it would just be cheaper getting a new engine instead of having them fix it, and possibly having the same problems.

if i bought a 383 would a dealer install it?? i don't have the equipment to.

They probably would, but they would probably charge you more than a competent speed shop would. Especially if you can get a package deal for everything. Even a quality engine rebuilder would be preferable to a dealer IMO.

Not sure where you live, but ask around in your local regional forum about decent shops that might be able to set you up. good luck.

Dealership will rip you apart even if they did install a stroker. They wanted 1200 to install my opti. Go to a custom car shop and have them install it, it will be cheaper. Or find some generous and enthusiastic F-Body buds around your area.

$1200 for an OPTI install...did that include the part...or what that just labor?!?!?

I haven't priced an install so I don't know...but that seems rediculous.

What would a "good" price be?

With opti, but I bought an opti for $200ish. Of course they wouldnt let me buy the opti and have them install it. I did it on my own, was glad I did and it cost me way less.

I dont know a good price, but definately get a custom car shop to do it. Hell call HPTV and ask them if they want to do a peice on the install of a stroker and tranny. Hit up the local board area and ask them too.
