96z28 and its problems
 

Hey, I have a 96 z28 with around 113k miles on it. I just bought this car about 2 months ago and started having problems.

1.Had it smogged and didnt pass-tech. said it was a miss fire. I just took it to a machanic and he said that it was giving off. He said I need a new opti. While I drive it, sometimes I smell gas. When I am going above 50, I here a rattling noise coming from engine.
2.Gas guage doesnt work. It reads 1/2 tank all the time.
3."LOW OIL" light comes on and off, but I have oil.

Can someone help out on what may be causing these problems and ways to fix them? THANKS

Start with the basics- spark plugs, wires and make double sure there are no cracks, or burn marks on the wires. Keep it simple, do a basic tune up first.;)

What exactly didn't pass?

1. Tune up, when was your last oil change? Smogged...those flowmasters do you have cats on those pipes?
2. There is a bobbin in the tank, yellow in color, that could be jammed or stuck "1/2 way". Its all part of the sending unit.
3. New oil sensor, yours my be shot (or getting there). (oil sensor located on the drivers side of the oil pan, within a fingers length of the oil drain bolt. The oil sensor looks like a big nut with wires going into it.(lol)

It passed smog already, I changed the plugs, wire, new airfilter, EGR valve and oil change, so the smog is out of the way now. As for the flowmasters, i do have cats on the pipes. It has 2. Im gonna have to take a look at the oil sensors and gas tank. How would I check the bobbin and the sendingunit?
