96ss missing

Ive run out of ideas as to what it could be. I have a 96 camaro ss 6spd man. trans. The car revs up with no problems all the way to red line no miss, doesnt even matter if its hot or cold. But as soon as you put it in gear it starts poping and missing all over the place. Only things iI have done to the car are as follows

-Long tube headers
-3inch y pipe
-totl slp exhaust
-pulleys crank & alternater
-fuel press. reg. set at 40psi
-pcm 4less tune
-msd wires new less than 100 miles
-ac delco opti spark new less than 100 miles
-ngk plugs set at .50

Are you getting an SES light? If so, what code is being thrown? Does the miss show up in every gear at all RPMs?

i would check to make sure you dont have an exhaust leak, check your oxygen sensors, fuel pressure. just go over and check everything you possibly can.

I hate to see other SS's suffer.

good luck

no codes or exhaust leaks o2 sensors are good as well, but i do notice it breaks up real bad in 1st gear the most

do you have a cable to run data master?

TeamingTealZ28 05-30-2008 11:36 PM

BAD GAS.

Maybe just maybe...try putting in some fresh 93 octane gas.

spark plug wires, under load it would develop and would go away out of gear

96redrum 05-31-2008 09:25 AM

I never thought about bad gas but than again shouldnt it do it all the time? & no Data master cable either.

I was thinking this as well but man, I just put new spark plug wires on it, & since there the MSD custom fit because I have OVC looms, I would hate to buy another set for $100 bucks if its not it but what other choice do i have. Also pulled plugs out last night and there still like new so those are still good. Thanks every one for your help we'll see if i can get to the bottom of this before this weekends up:bang:

i have a brand new set of msd's that i can't use (went to a ltcc conversion) they have 2 hours of use on them if that. pay shipping and 20 bucks and i'll send them to ya.

Sounds familiar. Check your #5 and #6 plug boots, since they're REAL close to the header tubes.

White96Z28 05-31-2008 01:32 PM

I've gotten a bad set of MSD's out of the box, so it's definately worth double checking...

jer4251 06-06-2008 07:15 PM

make sure their all the way on the opti.

Is the PCM/tune still OBD-II? If so, you should be getting a flashing SES light for the misfires. The PCM will also "count" the misfires by individual cylinders, and that data can be pulled with a scanner with "GM enhanced parameters". Knowing which cylinders are missing might point you in the correct direction.
