96 LT1 Trans am questions

I just picked up a 96 LT1 Trans AM and she runs like a bat out of hell, but theres about half a second to a full second of hesitation in the throttle and I don't know what it could be. I was wanting to make it faster but don't have much cash and was wondering if anyone could tell me some cheap yet affective modifications I could make, I'm shooting for the low 13 second range. Any ideas on mods or what the hesitation could be from would greatly be appreciated.

and What is the best sounding exhaust that will also help with performance?

thanks

Fix the hesitation BEFORE you do any mods. It shouldn't be doing that. Could be as simple as a torn inlet bellows/elbow. Could be more serious. Doing mods on an engine that isn't running right is not a good idea.

I would do a tune up first. Plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, pcv, maybe some injector cleaner. Stuff like that so you have a base line.

now that you mention it that could be whats happening. It had almost no hesitation when I shifted myself, but it was still there.

Is that kind of hesitation normal or do I need to check anything out? I mean she'll still light em up at 30mph, It's just I didn't know if anything was wrong

It may be normal, get an exact time of how long it takes to downshift

My car downshifts pretty damn fast but I have a built transmission so that may help.
